WOW! Could you get any more petty? The movie's too long! The movie's too short! Why don't I have subtitles? Why are there subtitles?
For the love of Satan, JUST WATCH THE MOVIE!
If you can understand English, then YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DIE IF THERE ARE SUBTITLES ON THE SCREEN!
The bottom line is, you're not going to find a version of this movie WITHOUT subtitles in either Cantonese or English! It's one of the rare movies that the subtitles were superimposed onto the master after editing. And the only way to remove the subtitles all together would be to crop off a quarter of the screen at the bottom! And, that would just be stupid!
So, quit bitching about the subtitles! Because, they're not going anywhere soon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, what about the actual movie?
"Virus" is just one of dozens of apocalyptical virus movies made over the past 50 years. But, what made this movie different is the moment in history when it was made. We were at a moment where nuclear war was a huge threat, along with meltdowns at nuclear powerplants. Then, thrown into the midst of that, there was a deadly virus, nobody knew anything about. But, those who contracted it, were dying at a frighteningly alarming rate. And, it would be another year or more before it was given a proper name - A.I.D.S., and the would would be informed of just how deadly it was. If fact, unless it was mentioned on the news or newspaper, the president Ronald Reagan simply refused to even mention it in his speeches during his first term. And then, getting him to talk about it was like prying a turkey carcass out of the clutches of Oprah Winfrey...in other words, NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE!
What really makes this movie so unique is that 3 countries (USA, USSR & Japan) with completely opposite viewpoints united together to create what is actually considered of the greatest epidemic disaster movies ever made, with an all star cast. "Virus" was brilliantly written & filmed it the actual locations that are represented. And, on top of an amazing celluloid masterpiece, the story is bookended with one of the most beautiful theme songs written for film - "You Are Love (Toujours Gai Mon Gher)", performed by the incredible Janis Ian.
I really only had one major problem with "Virus". And, that was Chuck Connor's HORRIBLE British accent. He has it in one scene, then not in another. Why that was never caught & fixed, I'll never know. But, that would be my only complaint.
Now, to rate this movie, I can't give it anything less than 5/5 stars. There have been so many movies made over the years in this particular genre, with some actually being good. But, "Virus" sat the bar extremely high, and nobody has been able to reach it in the past 40 years. That is why this movie has a permanent home in my movie collection. In all honesty, I could watch this once a week and never get bored of it.
And, although it is 40 years old, in 2020, we are still living under the threat of a viral pandemic that could mutate and wipe the human race off the entire face of the planet. So, this movie is just as relevant today as it was when it was filmed.
There are three versions:
2 hr 36 min (156 min)
1 hr 48 min (108 min) (USA)
1 hr 43 min (103 min) (alternate cut) (USA)
Maybe also a director's cut?
This upload is the longer vers and is good quality,
Well the ISO was created with instructions from the previous torrent, but 2 errors have been reported so i deleted it.
Since the source DVD had issues to begin with (windowboxing, interlacing), the MKV is the all around best choice for viewing. Sorry for all the grand daddies still using legacy DVD players.
FYI: This title is public domain and if you look at the dollar store - it is usually sold there - sometimes in a keep-case and other times in a cardboard sleeve. No need to download.
I already have this movie on a dollar dvd and it is a pretty good movie.
However there is something not quite right about this upload.
h.264 = 2.6kb
Ogg = 3.5 kb
size of the Matroska seems about right 1.8 gigs
why the sam heck would you upload a 7.8 gb iso file? Should have converted it to a mpeg 2 for upload. Then the downloader could use a program like - dvd author - to create a dvd.
'any video converter' is a good free program to use for video conversion.
@ian: you can't just burn the .iso to a disc you need to use such as this free program http://www.imgburn.com/ or you can snag it from the CNN owned site http://download.cnet.com/ImgBurn/3000-2646_4-11673524.html if you are wary
